Reiki
What is Reiki?

The name Reiki, pronounced "Ray-key," comes from the Japanese
words "rei" meaning spirit, and "ki" meaning energy.  It is usually translated
as "universal life energy."  It is a holistic system meaning that it treats the
whole being, addressing problems and healing at all levels:  physical,
emotional, mental, and spiritual.  Along with other therapies, such as
acupuncture, homeopathy, and flower essences, Reiki is a part of the
emerging field of energetic healing, rediscovered from the wisdom and knowledge of
ancient cultures for use in modern times.

Everything in the universe is made up of and connected by energy.  By transmitting
the healing energy of the universe along energetic pathways and through the
practitioner's hands to the client, Reiki heals as deeply as needed with a being to
create a shift toward health.

Reiki and Animals

Reiki is ideal for use with animals because it is gentle and noninvasive.  It does not
cause stress, discomfort, or pain, and yet yields powerful results.  The animal
controls the treatment, accepting Reiki in ways that are most comfortable.  Animals
respond intuitvely to Reiki's power to heal emotional, behavioral, and physical
illnesses and injuries.

For animals who are healthy, Reiki helps to maintain their health, enhances relaxation,
and provides an emotional sense of peace and contentment.

For animals who are ill, Reiki is a wonderful healing method as well as safe complement
to Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, flower essences, and all
other forms of healing.  For example, Reiki can reduce the side effects of
chemotherapy, suppor an acupuncture treatment, and enhance the effects of flower
essences.

For dying animals, Reiki is a powerful yet gentle way to provide comfort, relief from
pain, fear, and anxiety, and to ease the transition to death for both the animal and their
people.

Reiki and People

Reiki can facilitate stress-reduction and relaxation, support effective immune-system
function, enhance the body's self-healing mechanisms, and replenish and nurture
vitality.  Sessions done in person are hands on where the hands are lightly placed in
various hand positions while the client is fully clothed and lying on a treatment table.
The treatments are non invasive and are given in a comfortable environment
appropriate for the client.
